Visa has announced its plans to develop apps for Android. Hosting an innovation briefing in New York, they showed-off the progress made in electronic and mobile payments. Present at conference were biggies Google, Intel and Nokia.
The app being developed will be available for download from the Market initially only to Chase Visa cardholders. First set of apps will be Chase specific, that will allow its cardholders to receive notifications to their mobile devices about transaction activity on their accounts, obtain offers from a several merchants, use the built-in location-based technology to quickly map nearby merchants where they can redeem Visa offers and locate ATMs that accept Visa. In addition, there will be apps that will Visa consumers to make mobile payments in retail locations nationwide, or while on the go, over wireless networks.
The apps will provide 3 different services, Alerts, where consumers will receive near real-time notification of purchase activity based on customized cardholder preferences, Offers, where people will receive targeted offers from merchants directly to their phone and Locate, which will integrate with Google Maps and Google location-based services, to show consumers nearby locations of merchants sending them offers, or of an ATM that accepts Visa.
