Replying to reports (http://www.modmygphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1941) that it had increased its Android team seven-fold, Motorola confirmed working on Android products in a statement it sent to BetaNews, but stopped short of confirming the no. of employees assigned to the project.

The full reply sent was, "Motorola is pleased to see the industry enthusiasm and support of the Android operating system. As a pioneer in mobile Linux and a founder of OHA, Motorola believes Android is it promises to be one of the most powerful, flexible and customizable open platforms, enabling truly integrated mobile hardware, software and web experiences. We're excited about the innovation possibilities on Android, and look forward to delivering great products in partnership with Google and the Open Handset Alliance community."

Motorola has always been using Linux in its phones with its MotoMagx (http://www.motorola.com/content.jsp?globalObjectId=8411)(Z6, V8, U9) and Ezx (http://wiki.openezx.org/EZX_Platform_Overview)(Ming A1200, Rokr E6) platforms, so there was no surprise about it being interested in Android. But since G1's announcement, media has been curious to know who's next in line and Moto being experienced with Linux phones, significantly reduces its time-to-market and is the perfect candidate to go next.

Now you know you can expect some droids from Moto's stable late next year.
