There have been complaints that the battery drains fast. how many days (or hours:() have you gone without recharging your G1 ?

thier were suggestions not to use it until its been charged for at least a good 12 hrs... but it only helps by about 30%, so still a quick drain but non the less charg it out of the box.

That is probablly the biggest flaw i have seen my drains very very fast. Hopefully a firmware update will fix that or a better battery. Still a great phone though.

I've noticed the battery life is knid of short too. But I did talk on the g1 for 4 hrs with 3g on without it dying. It could use a boost though.

My wife's G1 got from full to about 20% in less than 8hrs. Poor signal and spotty 3g at her work probably helped with that

You can't really expect such a data heavy phone to be good on battery life. With a stand by of 406 hours and talk time of 5, thats not too shabby...(?)

I was disappointed with the battery life too until I calibrated the battery monitor. Just let it charge all of the way up overnight, then run the battery down until it is forced to shut down itself. before this it would tell me that it was running low (15%) after just an hour of browsing or talking. now I can get almost 5 hours of solid web browsing and youtubing. this is the same process you have to go through when you put new cells in a laptop battery, it jut needs to correspond the correct percentage readout with the voltage of the cell.

question.....
when I have the GPS enabled on the G1 but am not running an app that requires GPS, does it drain the battery? The GPS icon does not appear until you use a GPS app (i.e. maps).

i think yes, because you are still sending your location signal to the satellite in the background.

for people who havn't gotten the RC29, you can just manually update your firmware..

I get anywhere from 24+ hours to a low of 14 hours now. I just let it run down to about 2-4% everytime and then charge it overnight. GPS is turned on but WiFi and Bluetooth are off. 14 hours is with very heavy usage, I have twidroid running in the background, 300+ texts, 1+ hrs of web browsing, checking the app store a few times, and 1+ hrs of talking, playing a few games, and then using some of the apps such as maps. also, my brightness is turned down the about 25-30%

I got some good new. I just bought a external battery for my T-mobile G1. it give you about 500% of T-mobile G1 battery. takes 1.5 hr to charge G1 from ground zero. I tried and love it. It smaller in length and little bit wider than G1. look pretty cool and best part I dont have to worry about my battery running out of juice.
Its suppose to give you 30+ video and about 150hr of audio.
if you are interested I'm adding the link for the ebay listing. I will post more pictures of it with my G1.
