Does anyone know how will you be able to upgrade the firmware if you unlock and use it on AT&T since it is OTA?

We'll figure that out after the unlock is out.. haha. I speculate you might have to put a valid tmobile sim in it to get the updates if they truely aare OTA... in which case the unlock process maybe have to then be update as well like the iphone.

Over the Air updates are controlled by the manufacturer/provider.

I just could not wait anymore, so I found a thread over xda-developers on how to download the official update, put on your micro sd card and update your phone.


1) Download the update from google website: https://android.clients.google.com/updates/signed-kila-ota-115247-prereq.TC4-RC19+RC28.zip

2) Rename the file you just downloaded to update.zip

3) Copy the file update.zip to the root of your micro sd card.

4) Now turn off your phone and turn it back on while holding the home key.

5) When you see a triangle with a exclamation sign and a phone, slide open your keyboard and press ALT-L to display the menu and then ALT-S to start the update process.

6) Wait for the update to finish. If prompted, press Home + Back to restart your phone.

7) Wait a little bit more and done!

Awesome sounds simple assuming thats the latest firmware? and to the guys who did update, it didnt clean you out did it? all data still there?

O.k I found a rapidshare link an I followed the steps an I got it first shot. :) much easier to flash new firmware to this phone unlike my old a1200 which I still have feelings for lol.....Thanks again guys great find :)

Hi, im using the G1 in the UK but i purchased it from the US. The firmware i am currently on is TC4-RC30. I would like to install the UK firmware onto my G1. The link you have provided is this the UK firmware. If not where would i be able to download the UK firmware from?

It's the US version. I have not seen the UK version out yet. What is the difference between the US and UK versions, aside from the absence of the WLM/YM/AIM IN services?

The dialing number format is different to the UK one, its a bit confusin wen dialing a number. And google street view cant find anything.

Is it worth changing the firmware to the UK one?
