Pretty much just like the iPhone 3G... turn off 3G, wifi, bluetooth, GPS, fetch less often. When I did these things with my iPhone batt got an extra 1/2 day or so.

True, i got like 6-8 hours tops during the day. I just went trough all available steps to extend my battery life, we will see how much of help it is. It is 6:20AM and i will let you know later how it was. Will be back from work around 6PM. :)

OK, i`m back from work......here what i did during the day.....i turned on WI-FI and 3G. I reduced display to about 20% and turned off GPS. Then, for about 45 minutes i turned GPS on and used guidance on my route. Then i turned off again. At work my WI_FI was on all the time. Screen was always turned to 30 sec. I played music for about 20 minutes or so, played one game for about 15 minutes, took 5 pictures, sms-ed my friends (30+ messages back and forth), checked my email manually twice, sync was turned off all the time. It is 5:30PM almost and my battery status when i plugged in charger showed 47% !!!!! not bad, not bad AT ALL...................:]

The OTA that i received last week helped my battery out A LOT. Had a fully charged battery and when I was on wifi, killed the battery in an hour and change. That same night, i received the update and it works like a charm, doesnt even get as hot/warm anymore. Also, the oldest trick in the book is to NOT charge the battery until it dies. Especially when you 1st receive any new device. It will help train the battery to not look for a charge so soon. Try this the 1st few wks you have your G1...hope that helps.

Its funny I was think the firmware MIGHT play a big part in the battery consumption.. I notice some have already start to receive the RC29 OTA update..

If you take a look at the naming string for the RC28 - This is a picture I took of my G1.. Notice the "kila-userdebug.." I wonder if Google is running debugs in the background and sending it up... Could explain why the device is always churning sucking up the battery.. And who know what data is going to the "cloud".. btw- the "kila-user" very thuggish! :p

Picture from Engadget of the RC29 - No Debug in the naming...

I just hit the END key when im not using it... saves on juice that way. I also have the "Toggle GPS" app to easily turn GPS on and off

OK, looks like not everyone of us has same problem. I cannot complain for my battery life. At the very beginning, i was shocked with its life, it was like about 6-7 hours tops. Then, for about a week i was "deep-cycling" it every day at least once, if not twice.....and now; i am disconnecting my charger at about 6am, i have "all things" like WI-Fi, GPS and so on...turned ON, during the day i am using it as normal, phone calls ( 20-40 a day), texting (about 30 a day), i use GPS just for fun at least once, and by the end of my day which is around 10PM, my battery shows 20-30% power left. Truth is i don't listen to music and always!!! hit the END key if i am not using it. Even my display is set to 30sec. It is not bad, not bad at all now..................:)
