So let me just get this straight, Gphone is going to be an OS that can be installed on the phones of participating manufacturers? I noticed that HTC was one of them. This means that I can replace WinMo, correct?

No. Google is creating an OS called Android, which phone manufacturers like HTC, Motorola, etc will be building phones for, and the devices will ship with Android on them. Phones running this OS have affectionately been dubbed Gphones.
You won't be able to simply install the OS on any phone, since you would need the correct chipsets, hardware, etc to be able to use it anyway.

I just bought a TyTN2 for the same purpose. Im sure the firmware can be modded to support the hardware of TyTN2
