Default G1 users get/send messages they don't intend to!

For some reason, G1 users of T-Mobile US have been receiving SMS/MMS from other users who didn't send them. This has been going on for few weeks now. Earlier the problem was limited to MMSes being delivered from unknown no., but since last week, SMSes are being sent out on others' names.

Apparently it is a problem with the messaging servers that T-Mobile has setup for G1, it seems like messages are being sent out to every G1 user instead of just the intended recipient and mix up the sender's no. in the mess. Pictured below is a god chain sms that is going around in similar manner.

T-Mo has said the problem is limited to G1 and it's engineers have been working to solve the problem. Until this issue is resolved, you can either switch to your backup phone or get to know strangers!

What Ive been wondering is...who ends up paying for the txt if you dont have an unlimited plan? The actual sender or the person it says it came from?

You call T-mobile but normally the sender pays for text based on his own plan and we pay for our received text based on our plan. So if you dont have an unlimted plan a text message sent or received on your end counts as part of your total per month. YES, even if you don't open it. It should be in your text contract.

Now in this situation I'm sure you can call customer service and complain and I'm sure they will do something about it.

One gets charged for incoming as well... so the recipient who wasnt initially intentionally messaged would get charged, too!

Default Good Grief

I am so glad to see someone posted about this. I just got off chat with T-Mobile and his solution was for me to change my freaking number! I was like "no thanks, I'll just deal". I had no idea other users were experiencing this. So far, I've only received 2 SMS both from NY numbers, so just a small inconvenience...but it did have me scratching my head, lol.

The issue has nothing to do with messagin servers.. who ever told you that is a moron. all devices use the same messaging server. The problem is certain messages that are MMS messages but out the android system and bug the message chain forceing the messages to go to the first person on your contact book formatted a specifc way.. to fix this u need to delete all message chains and reset your phone.
