ADB Issue

I'm sure it's been posted before, but I just keep getting redirected to the same posts on the same sites with the same guides every time. I'm trying to install the modded recovery image. On my SD Card, I have boot.img and update.zip. I've used ADB to push recovery_testkeys.img to recovery.img. It then tells me how many KB/s. I then type adb shell, get the $ sign, and type "su". Comes back as permission denied. If someone wouldn't mind, please help me out rather than just sending me to one of the 5 threads thats circulated 50 million times. I wouldn't actually post on a message board if I could find it weeding through prior posts/sites. Thank you...

what firmware version are you on ?

It was rc 30 now I'm running rc29

have you tried to mount /system as read/write ?

yeah and i get operation not permitted

have you checked if you are on RC29 ? what does it say at Settings > About Phone > Build no.

yeah it says rc29

try the telnet method.

or download the droidsans tweak tool for rooted g1's and option 1 on the program will set your system as read/write..
