My Home button is dead

I dont remember what I did, but after I tried to clear google apps data and setup GPRS, new default google account, my home button became useless.
Power button cannot lock key pad anymore (just put my G1 to sleep mode), if hold power button it just show shut down option (it used to have silent mode and shutdown)
Somepeople told me to factory reset my G1, but I'm afraid of loosing my unlock code. And I'll have to buy a new unlock code because I lost the old one.
Any help please!

factory reset will not lock your phone.
