Hi jman316,
Welcome to MMG, if you want to jailbreak your phone you should first check what version you have on your phone before any modding, i.e: RC29, RC30. You can check it in settings > About Phone > Build Number.Check out the Jailbreak section where the stickies are for further information on how to jailbreak it. After You Jailbreak It, It Is Important To Back Up Your Phone

Once again welcome and happy modding!

some addicting games i have found are any of the papi games and throttle copter. some must get apps would be "chomp sms" "sms popup" "shop saavy" "backgrounds" "ringdroid" "save mms" "notepad" "video player" "Flashlight" "power manager" "snap photo" are all great apps that are perfect for a new G1 user i liked them A TON and easy to use and will get you started on customizing it to where you like it and show it off to your friends now a little about each

Chomp SMS- in market search "sms" and this will give you the on screen keyboard in almost an iPhone lookin text source.
SMS Popup- gives you an on screen alert when you have a new message and will take you right to it.
Shop Saavy- to wow all your friends make sure GPS and WIFI are on to find local but scan any common item ie (bag of chips) it will tell you price and where to buy.
Backgrounds- self explanatory browse and find the ones you like.
Ringdroid-No more downloading ringtones and not getting the part of the song you like import your music and pick exactly what part of the song you wanna have.
Save MMS- allows you to save pictures and videos you receive to your sd card.
Notepad- duh...
Video Player- import your movies and watch them on the go.
Flashlight- ummm... great for finding lost beer pong balls lol.
Power Manager- quick shutoff of running features like wifi and gps, you can also set it to disable when battery life reaches a certain level.
Snap Photo- gives you a stability control for better pictures and always allows you to change the resolution and effects.

and for the games just try a bunch lol i don't know what you like...

google reader isnt that great. i think because it keeps reverting to the iphone version. "mark as read" just results in the same items being loaded again.

Go down a little further in the About Phone and does it say something like RC30 or RC something.

Ringdroid is a must have for me. Even though it crashs when setting a ringtone it still gets the job done and the exact place of a song you want.

its just your actuall version rc 30 if you just got your phone has root disabled. so if you were to want root you would have to downgrade to rc29 then upgrade to the cracked rc30.

Ive just used the phone for ten mins and the battery that was showing 98% is now showing 87%!!!!

It definately eats up the battery juice !!! my wifi is switched off as is the bluetooth. Screen set to low. and still it eats up so much juice!

it gets quite a bit better once you have charged it a few times that is why i recommended downloading power manager it will enable and disable effects as you go.. and also you have RC8 so if you wanted to crack it you would have to downgrade to RC7 then back up to the cracked RC8 version. i didn't realize you were located in the UK.
