Default Google pushing RC30 down your throat

You saw this coming didn't ya! Google doesn't seem to be amused by the insignificant development we had earlier this week. Users have started receiving RC30 updates that allegedly shuts down the root hole which brought some freedom to our locked and closed G1.

Heres the official statement, “We’ve been notified of this issue (Jailbreaking of Android) and have developed a fix. We’re currently working with our partners to push the fix out and updating the open source code base to reflect these changes.”

RC30 started rolling out this afternoon. Its on an accelerated release and should be to nearly everyone over the next 3 to 4 days.

If you were never the jailbreaking type, this update is for you, for others, probably not the best time to accept an OTA update.

sigh, thus begins the age old cat-n-mouse game.

Although, technically - EVERYTHING you typed on the phone was being run through the local shell (thanks, Saurik) whether you typed it while the browser was up, or while PTerminal was up. And THAT'S a pretty big security hole.

Im ok with it... everything I want to do with the G1 shouldnt be a prob anyways. All apps thru tmo are free until 2009, and since everyone and their mother has the OS to develop on, its not like we will be fighting to get ahold of apps.

No, the RC30 "fix" shouldn't affect the sim unlock.

Default I got the OTA update... but I am using AT&T

Hey everybody... I thought this was weird so I will report it.

I have SIM unlocked my G1 to work on AT&T.

This morning I woke up and had a notification that a system update was available.

I thought you could only get OTA updates from T-mobile.

Anyone else experience this?
