Default RC30 cracked, root and telnetd return

If you were holding out on RC30 like us, good news guys, JesusFreke from xda-dev has modified the full version of RC30 update to allow root access. The modifications include the 'su' command so you can go root from within the phone and ofcourse the good old telnetd.

Detailed instructions for upgrading are here.

Happy rooting

Why is it so different to upgrade with this one, when RC29 was so easy to install?

stock RC30 update will remove telnet and root access. You also wont be able to run apps off SD Card. So we have to be precautious. With RC30, the cat-n mouse game has officially begun.

No, it won't. I believe OTA updates haven't started for UK yet. But when they do, be careful not to accept them. But ofcourse when an update for UK arrives, we'll have a solution for you guys too.

the cracked RC30 requires that you already have a certain file onboard for the crack to work. Hence the extra step to load that required file.

Dang. I took the OTA rc 30 update when offered and then stumbled upon this. Doh! I wonder if it is possible to back out to a lower rev (say rc29) then rev up to a modified image of RC30? Hmmmm....

so from what i read so far, the only way to gain root access was to actually update through this modified firmware... My question what happens if i already upgraded ota to rc30... am i totally screwed or can we downgrade... or can i just update to the modified firmware... while im already on rc30

if you already have the OTA R30, you will need to wait until someone finds a work around.
