Cupcake ported to G1 already!
The 'Cupcake' branch of Android source, which has all the interesting stuff, has been partially ported to G1 by a Thai dev - Pathompol Suebpradist, the onscreen keyboard is working good. Cupcake being a relatively unstable branch, the only features that work as of now are hardware/onscreen keyboard and data/voice connections. Video below shows the onscreen keyboard at use with browser.

ya hopefully it works smothly cause that was one of the features that i was hoping for the g1 to have and was a lil dissappointed that it didn't have it

On-screen keyboard is a must-have feature for full-touchscreen phone. With this update, porting to other phone will be easier
